Charles D. Engler Sr.
Charles D. Engler Sr.of Apalachin, NYCharles Dane Engler Sr., 77, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, October 17, 2009. Born in Buffalo, New York, November 19, 1931, the son of Charles Henry Engler and Ada Ness Engler. He graduated from Proctor High School and grew up in Utica, New York. Survived by his wife, Ruth M. Engler; sons, Charles (Chantal) Engler Jr., Christopher (Pam) Engler; and daughter, Hope (Rick) Engler Walsh. He is survived by grandchildren, Christopher, Evan, Elaina, Xavier and Sydney Engler, Evan and Nicholas Walsh; and his sister, Ruth Engler O'Brien. He is predeceased by brother, Janson (Jack) Engler. Chuck served in the Air Force during the Korean War from 1950-1954. He graduated in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York. He retired from IBM, Owego, New York as an Electronic Systems Engineer after 29 years. Chuck was a longtime member of Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church and 10 year member of the Vestal Knights of Columbus, serving three years as Grand Knight. He enjoyed being with his family, singing in the Church Choir and was an active leader in the community organizations such as Cub Scouts and coaching youth sports.A Funeral Mass will be offered at 12 noon, Friday, October 23, 2009, at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 157 Clark Street, Vestal, New York. The family will receive friends at the church Friday morning from 10:30 a.m. until service time at 12 Noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Chuck's name to the Knights of Columbus, Vestal Council 4746, Seminarians, PO Box 452, Vestal, NY 13851-0452. Arrangements are by the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, Inc., 765 Main St., Vestal.
